Organiser and Panel Member
UoA PhD students seminar "Science in Media", 7 Feb 2020
"The interaction between fictional media and science. Three panel members who are currently developing a sci-fi stage show. They'll give us some insight into the development and the process of balancing factual representation and creativity. Themes include climate change, space travel, survival, and the experiences of women in STEM fields. The discussion will look into how the scientific advice evolved from simply fact-checking through to actively changing the nature of the characters and of the story itself." Discussed: Why scientists should share their knowledge with creatives, how to engage the public, what writers want from a science advisor, how science advising can help address social issues |
